 Airborne 2212 1May44 from Snaith, tasked to bomb the rail installations. Shot down by a night-fighter, crashing into a field, near Kruipendaards (West-Vlaanderen) some 6 km E of Roeselare. Those killed are buried in Wevelgem Communal Cemetery. F/S Oxenburgh had flown with No.158 Sqdn, his DFM being promulgated 29Oct43. F/S G.R.French KIA Sgt R.Claxton KIA WO2 W.F.Picton RCAF PoW Sgt A.L.Westcar PoW also initialled R.L.Westcar. Sgt T.W.Richards PoW F/S J.D.Oxenburgh DFM KIA Sgt F.J.Arbon KIA WO2 W.F.Picton was interned in Camps L6/357, PoW No.3794 with Sgt T.W.Richards, PoW No.3800 and Sgt A.L.Westcar, PoW No.3795. ”
